Late Paleocene to early Oligocene fire ecology of the south Mongolian highland

چکیده
Changes in fire ecology during warm and cold periods the geological past are important because of their effects on terrestrial ecosystems global carbon cycle. We examined charcoal concentrations Erden Obo section Inner Mongolia to reconstruct evolution wildfire relationship regional vegetation from Late Paleocene through Early Oligocene. Our data show that frequency were relatively high end beginning Eocene, accord with other paleofire records worldwide. However, low occurred Eocene Climate Optimum (EECO), coincident change shrubland forest due strengthening rainfall, we suggest humid climate may have been responsible for this decrease. High after Middle near-synchronously transition steppe. The high-frequency was most likely triggered by drought aridification process Eocene. propose these temporal changes consistent within northern temperate zone Oligocene, studies wildfires need be evaluated context paleovegetation zones ecosystem evolution.

Brachiopods from the Silberberg Formation (Late Eocene to Early Oligocene) of Atzendorf, Central Germany
Six brachiopod species, i.e., Discradisca sp., Cryptopora sp., Pliothyrina sp. cf. P. grandis (Blumenbach, 1803), Terebratulina tenuistriata (Leymerie, 1846), Rhynchonellopsis nysti (Bosquet, 1862), and Orthothyris pectinoides (von Koenen, 1894), have been identified in the Late Eocene to Early Oligocene Silberberg Formation of Atzendorf, Central Germany. The species R. nysti and O. pectinoides...
متن کاملFire ecology of a Late Carboniferous floodplain, Joggins, Nova Scotia
The facies distribution and palaeobotanical identity of fossil charcoal is described from the Upper Carboniferous (Westphalian A–B) Joggins section, Nova Scotia, in order to examine the fire ecology of early Westphalian floodplains. Three charcoal assemblages are noted. Assemblage (1) consists of channel sandstone bodies, containing beds of calcrete breccia, cordaite logs (up to 3 m long), and ...
متن کاملHeterogeneity in global vegetation and terrestrial climate change during the late Eocene to early Oligocene transition
Rapid global cooling at the Eocene - Oligocene Transition (EOT), ~33.9-33.5 Ma, is widely considered to mark the onset of the modern icehouse world. A large and rapid drop in atmospheric pCO2 has been proposed as the driving force behind extinctions in the marine realm and glaciation on Antarctica. However, the global terrestrial response to this cooling is uncertain. Here we present the first ...
متن کاملMenispermaceae from the Cerrejon Formation, middle to late Paleocene, Colombia.
The origin and processes creating the high diversity of plant species in neotropical rain forests and their floristic composition and multistratitified forest structure are still uncertain. Here, we studied one of the most common leaf morphotypes of the Cerrejón flora (middle-late Paleocene, ca. 60-58 Ma), Guajira, Colombia, that contains one of the oldest records of neotropical rain forest flo...
